SEAFAIRSeattle's history has always been tied to the sea, from the whaling practices of the original coastal natives to the city's current status as a major international shipping port. It should be no surprise then, that Seattle's most cherished tradition is SEAFAIR- the midsummer celebration of everything aquatic. Few events in the Northwest create as much palpable excitement as the arrival of the Blue Angels or the Hydroplane races on Lake Washington. Seattle International Film FestivalWhile Seattle may not be known as a major player in the film industry, the Seattle International Film Festival is a grand celebration of film that brings filmmakers from all over the globe to the Emerald City. The scope of the festival is massive, typically showing in the neighborhood of 200 films from around the world. Skagit Valley Tulip FestivalLocated 60 miles north of Seattle off Interstate 5, the Skagit Valley is a lush vale of farmland dotted with picturesque small towns. Over the years the entire area has become associated with the many tulip farms that burst into color in spring. At the heart of the valley is the town of Mount Vernon, which hosts the popular Skagit Valley Tulip Festival each April. BumbershootBumbershoot is one of America's largest urban arts festivals and one of the most highly anticipated Seattle events each year. Held at the Seattle Center, Bumbershoot fills four days and nights with music, arts and food. The beauty of Bumbershoot is in the way it embraces art of all forms-one minute you're at a hip-hop concert, the next you're passing a puppet show. |
